November 21, 1694 Philosophy	Voltaire's Birthday Philosopher (b. 1694) Francois-Marie Arouet, aka Voltaire, was born on Nov. 21, 1694. Voltaire's "Candide" posed a sharp criticism of the prevailing idea that the universe is the best that God could make.



November 24, 1632 Philosophy	Baruch Spinoza's Birthday Philosopher (b. 1632) Baruch Spinoza was born on November 24, 1632. His redefining "god" to mean the natural world enabled freethinkers of his time to evade persecution as heretics.
