Activism - Page 2

The ACA at City Hall, in one of its earliest bits of activism. Austin mayor Bruce Todd proclaims November 22-29, 1996 "Give Thanks for State/Church Separation Week." How about them apples! Kudos to Rodney Florence for his work on the proclamation and the great photos. Below left is the proclamation itself.

 

Irony is never far from atheist political activities. Here, at the very same city council meeting at which the above proclamation was read, ACA members remain seated during the traditional Christian prayer that opens each meeting. Kellen drummed up a bit of controversy surrounding this little ritual by phoning every weird religious cult she could think of  to encourage them to demand equal time. Things got interesting when the Hindu priestess and the leader of the local Eckankar group demanded equal time.

The next Adopt-a-Street clean up will be May 17th at 11am.

Regular Sunday meetings and ACA board meetings have both been moved 30 minutes later. The regular Sunday meeting is at Romeo's, now starting 11:30am.

On June 14th, the ACA will have a booth at the Gay & Lesbian Pride Festival. Volunteers are needed.
The ACA Summer Solstice Party will be June 21st.
